About Department

The Department of Political Science was established in 1967. The Department offers various interdisciplinary courses for both the B. A. (Prog.) and B. A. (Hons.) students. The Department is committed for the overall personality development of the students. At present the Department is does not run B. A. (Hons.) in political Science but it has got the approval and expected to offer it from the next semester. In addition to that, the Department, during the FYUP, successfully taught B. A. (Hons.) courses in Political Science. In 2015-16 the Department was quite committed to celebrate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and organized various talks and round table discussions. The Department is academically active and organizes regular talks/seminars on contemporary social and political issues. The department encourages students to think out of box and help them in exploring and realizing their dreams. The teachers of the Department are academically very sounds and are engaged in various research projectsThe growing strength of the students in the interdisciplinary course offered by the Department shows its popularity.

Alumni

The department is not having honors course at present. But, we had an honors batch during the FYUP programme from 2013-2016. Here, we are giving record of some of our successful students of that batch who have really excelled in their field.

After doing graduation from SSN College Delhi University, he did MBA from Chandigarh University in human resource management and marketing. He is working as senior consultant in talent acquisition in Maxonic. He is also chair person of smiles4millions trust India registered under NCT delhi (all India level) smiles 4millions is working world wide in 100 plus countries with the network of 1050 organizations through united religions initiative. www.uri.org. Smiles4millions is registered with UN sustainable goals and UNGA (United Nations Global Market). He is peace ambassador in United Nations peace keeper’s federal council (www.unpkfc.org) he is working as an Indian media coordinator for allatra TV (international) he represented India in china as an student media delegate from India and got award of excellence in media competition in 2016. He got this award by Chinese ambassador to India H.E. Luo Zhaohui. He is also United Nations volunteer in India.

She is doing masters in social work. She is working as social worker helping hundreds of slum children for their growth in quality education. She also helped hundreds of slum children in getting admission in government and private schools who were involved in anti social activities. She is the real youth who transformed the society with the help of her mother Kusum Rajput (slums mother). She is now the coordinator of Delhi sahayta organization (www.sahaitaindia.com)

He is an advocate in Delhi high court and session court. He did his Law degree from Chandigarh University.

He is working as assistant superintendent in Tihar jail.

One of the permanent faculty, Mr. Manish Kumar has successfully completed the ICSSR sponsored research project “Mapping Electoral Behaviour in the Reserved Constituencies: A Study of Bihar Assembly Elections”.

2017-18


The Department of Political Science organized a lecture on the topic “Justice in Globalized world”. The speaker was Prof. AshokAcharya.The event took place on 8th November, 2017 the lecture focused on the concept of Justice in the context of Globalization.

The Department of Political Science organized a seminar on the topic “Ambedkar and His vision of Modern India “in collaboration with Ambedkar Study Circle on 23rd April 2018 different speakers elaborated upon role and ideas of Dr. Ambedkar as a modern thinker.

The Department of Political Science Organized a seminar on the topic “Ambedkar and Social Justice “in collaboration with Ambedkar Study Circle on 25th April 2018 the lecture covered different aspects of social justice and the ideas of Dr. Ambedkar.

The Department of Political Science organized an interactive session with students on topic “Mindful Thinking: A tool to develop others”. Main speaker in the program was Mr. TomeKavas, expert in Adult Education of Romania. The session took place on 2nd May 2018. The speaker discussed various tips with the students for strengthening mental capacity.


2018-19

The Department of Political Science organized an interactive session with students on the topic “Three Tier of Governance and Working of MCD” in joint association with Praja Foundation on 22nd January 2019. Various issues related to practical working of Municipal Corporation of Delhi were discussed in the programme.



2019-20


The Department of Political Science organized a lecture on the topic “Article 370and future of Jammu and Kashmir”. The speaker was Mr. Sanjay Paswan. He spoke in detail about the passage of the bill in Parliament that amended article 370 and article 35 A leading to the creation of two Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Laddakh by bifurcating the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He also pointed out various implications of the said step on future politics of Kashmir as well as India. The event was held on November 2019.


2020-21


The Department of Political Science organized a Webinar on “Impending crisis in Afghanistan and Regional Security in South Asia”, by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar H.M, Department of Political Science, University of Delhi, under the flagship program of AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAVA, on 18 August, 2021.
