About Department

The Department of Microbiology was established in 1987 at Swami Shraddhanand College and it was the first college to offer honours course in Microbiology. The faculty members are specialized in various fields like Recombinant DNA Technology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Environmental Microbiology, Virology, Agricultural Microbiology, Food and Dairy Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Bioprocess Engineering, Biomolecule Production, and Basic Research. The skill enhancement courses that are a part of the programme are designed to build a strong microbiology knowledge base in the students, and furthermore, acquaints the students with the applied aspects of this fascinating discipline, thus preparing the student for an eventual job in academia or industry. All the faculty members have several years of teaching and research experience. Besides the conventional blackboard teaching, power-point presentations, videos, interactive sessions, seminars, problem solving and revision classes are routinely used, with the goal of enhancing the competence of students and supporting them to make a mark in future.

Regular sessions for guidance by passed out students to the ongoing batches are arranged for their future entrance exams and research career in each academic session. Besides the well managed and up-to-date main college library, our Department also maintains a rich departmental library comprising of books gifted by teaching/non-teaching staff and ex- students. The laboratories are well equipped with all basic equipments and facilities. Our department gives the best possible platform to the incoming students to shape their careers well. The faculty is proud of the alumni and students as they have always brought laurels to the Department.
